The strength of any breeding program begins with its females. Our Foundational Cow Families represent the maternal lines that have helped shape the Enclave herd through consistency, longevity, and dependable production. These cows have earned their place through generations of influence, with daughters and granddaughters continuing to contribute to the strength and direction of the program.

RED SIX MILE TIMBERLAKE 180T x
RED TJS LAKOTA U827
Red DC Heavenly Hawk 2R, the cornerstone female of our herd, stems from the purchase of a bred heifer from Geis Angus Farm, Red Geis Lois 88’00. As a calf, this Geis Knight Hawk 14’02 daughter stood out amongst her peers, and Dennis was adamant that she was the choice for Courtney’s 4H project. She had a very successful show career, highlighted by being chosen as Reserve Grand Champion of the Canadian National Junior Angus Heifer Show as a two year old with calf at side. Heavenly Hawk went on to mother many offspring that inherited her distinctive wide hip, open spring of rib, excellent feet and legs, and great udders. The Heavenly Hawks are our best mothering cows. It’s easy to pick out a Hawk in the corral or pasture by their distinctive black face and show quality hair.
Red DC Maybelline 38Z’s mother was one of DC Angus’s best cows, always raising the biggest calves for Dennis and Carolyn. Her mating to Red Bar-E-L Waldemar 113W cemented this family’s legacy in our herd with the birth of Maybelline. Right from the start, Maybelline wanted to be your friend, and that hasn’t changed. This gentle natured mama inherited the perfect foot structure, and she used her overall frame, capacity, and power to become our boss cow. She joined the Enclave herd as a gift to Callie from grandpa Dennis, and after raising only bull calves until age ten, she finally had her first heifer in 2022. Amazingly, she has only had heifer calves since. Dennis said Callie was her good luck charm!
RED BAR-E-L WALDEMAR 113W x
RED CINDER CHRISTY 319T
Another Red Bar-E-L Waldemar 113W daughter, Red CGC Christy 40Z exemplified that same perfect foot that we saw in all his offspring. The Christy’s are herd leaders, always the first at the gate, whether it’s to come in for chop or to go out to grass, which we would attribute to their athleticism. Built like a Super Duty, these females are wide from their muzzle to their hips to their pins, and make your head turn. The Christy’s are more than easy calving, they are sneaky calving. It’s not very often that we will pick them out to bring them in the barn, and are often surprised to see a new calf up, licked off and sucking on the midnight check.

RED D C MISS DESIGN 63S
Historically, this cow family was known to produce very large calves at weaning. Over many generations, we have refined this lineage to improve udder quality while maintaining their high production. The Miss Design’s may not be the largest cows in the herd, but their calves are often amongst the heaviest in the bunch. Big calves. Great udders. Enough said.
