FEMALES

MEET OUR

Foundational Cow Families

The strength of any breeding program begins with its females. Our Foundational Cow Families represent the maternal lines that have helped shape the Enclave herd through consistency, longevity, and dependable production. These cows have earned their place through generations of influence, with daughters and granddaughters continuing to contribute to the strength and direction of the program.

Heavenly Hawks

Red DC Heavenly Hawk 2R

1587127 | SIXM 265X | 20/02/2010

RED SIX MILE TIMBERLAKE 180T x
RED TJS LAKOTA U827

Red DC Heavenly Hawk 2R, the cornerstone female of our herd, stems from the purchase of a bred heifer from Geis Angus Farm, Red Geis Lois 88’00. As a calf, this Geis Knight Hawk 14’02 daughter stood out amongst her peers, and Dennis was adamant that she was the choice for Courtney’s 4H project. She had a very successful show career, highlighted by being chosen as Reserve Grand Champion of the Canadian National Junior Angus Heifer Show as a two year old with calf at side. Heavenly Hawk went on to mother many offspring that inherited her distinctive wide hip, open spring of rib, excellent feet and legs, and great udders. The Heavenly Hawks are our best mothering cows. It’s easy to pick out a Hawk in the corral or pasture by their distinctive black face and show quality hair.

The Maybelline’s

RED DC MAYBELLINE 38Z

1707232 | DC 38Z | 30/01/2012
RED BAR-E-L WALDEMAR 113W x RED DC MAYBELLINE 16M

Red DC Maybelline 38Z’s mother was one of DC Angus’s best cows, always raising the biggest calves for Dennis and Carolyn. Her mating to Red Bar-E-L Waldemar 113W cemented this family’s legacy in our herd with the birth of Maybelline. Right from the start, Maybelline wanted to be your friend, and that hasn’t changed. This gentle natured mama inherited the perfect foot structure, and she used her overall frame, capacity, and power to become our boss cow. She joined the Enclave herd as a gift to Callie from grandpa Dennis, and after raising only bull calves until age ten, she finally had her first heifer in 2022. Amazingly, she has only had heifer calves since. Dennis said Callie was her good luck charm!

The Christy’s

RED CGC CHRISTY 40Z

1707216 | CGC 40Z | 31/01/2012

RED BAR-E-L WALDEMAR 113W x
RED CINDER CHRISTY 319T

Another Red Bar-E-L Waldemar 113W daughter, Red CGC Christy 40Z exemplified that same perfect foot that we saw in all his offspring. The Christy’s are herd leaders, always the first at the gate, whether it’s to come in for chop or to go out to grass, which we would attribute to their athleticism. Built like a Super Duty, these females are wide from their muzzle to their hips to their pins, and make your head turn. The Christy’s are more than easy calving, they are sneaky calving. It’s not very often that we will pick them out to bring them in the barn, and are often surprised to see a new calf up, licked off and sucking on the midnight check.

The Crack's

RED CGC CRACK-A-LACKIN 1W

1707232 | CGC 1W | 01/01/2009

RED GEIS KNIGHT HAWK 257’06 x
RED DC HEATHER BROOK 7P

From the time that Red CGC Crack-a-Lackin 1W was one month old she became the nuisance that followed you around the corral, and that has never changed. Because of her gentle nature, she was halter broke in 15 minutes, and headed off to the show ring with Courtney. After her show career, she turned out to be an exceptional mama until her retirement in 2023. Since then she has provided Grade A doula services to other younger cows coming through the barn. Crack’s daughters and grand-daughters have been working hard carrying the torch showcasing the family’s excellent feet, maternal instinct, and docility.
The Baroness’

RED HR HAHN BARONESS 54E

1957462 | HRH 54E | 01/01/2017
RED SSS STAUNCH 64Y x
RED K F BARONESS 58R
Red HRH Baroness 54E was purchased by Dennis and Carolyn as a bred heifer at the Northern Select sale in 2018. A Red SSS Staunch 64Y daughter from the designated Elite Red K F Baroness 58R that also produced Red Ter-Ron Riddler 57F. Baroness worked hard, but she also looked good doing it. The performance bred into this cow family is proven every year at weaning. Unfortunately, a hip injury during her prime years shortened her career, but she left behind three direct daughters that mirror her work ethic, open rib, and skeletal correctness.
The Miss Designs'

RED CGC STAR DUST 78W

1498117 | CGC 78W | 25/03/2009

RED GEIS KNIGHT HAWK 257’06 x
RED D C MISS DESIGN 63S

Historically, this cow family was known to produce very large calves at weaning. Over many generations, we have refined this lineage to improve udder quality while maintaining their high production. The Miss Design’s may not be the largest cows in the herd, but their calves are often amongst the heaviest in the bunch. Big calves. Great udders. Enough said.

The Alabama’s

RED D C KINGHT COUNTESS 16S

1373590 | DC 16S | 16/02/2006
RED BAR-E-L KNIGHT RYDER 134N x RED D C COUNTESS 8N
Phenotypically speaking, Red DC Knight Countess 16S stands out in our minds as one of the most perfect cows that ever walked the pastures at DC Angus. At the Alberta Junior Angus Showdown, she won Champion Canadian Mature Cow, and was reserve in her mature cow/calf class at the World Angus Forum . Countess was not just a show cow, she was also able to transmit her genetics to her progeny. Her daughters have showcased Countess’s perfect udder, muscling, width, and Angus style from generation to generation. Not to be outdone by all her remarkable female offspring, her son, Red DC Sakic 5H is currently writing his own chapter at Enclave, stamping his offspring with silky, well-attached udders, wide pins, and overall Angus beauty and character.
